A Board Certified Anesthesiologist, Certified Executive Coach, Medical Director of the UCSD Center for Surgery of Encinitas (ranked #3 in California and #5 in the US by Newsweek in 2021), and over 25 years as a practicing clinician, Dr. Rosenthal brings a uniquely qualified perspective to his client engagements.

Dr. Rosenthal calls upon his experience as a physician leader to assist new and established leaders navigate the ever-changing landscape of healthcare. He leverages his domain knowledge in medicine, biotech, business development and strategy, and executive coaching to also add value within FMG Leading's private equity clients. His experience in practice management and operations, and in creating and maintaining high performing teams helps guide clients who are examining new opportunities both pre and post-acquisition.

Dr. Rosenthal received his medical degree from the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, and his residency training in San Francisco and at The University of California at Davis.

EXPERIENCE

Dr. Jonathan Rosenthal is a Director at FMG Leading, a team of advisors who partner with clients to create business results at the intersection of humanity and high-performance. A Board-certified Anesthesiologist and certified executive coach with over 20 years of medical experience, Dr. Rosenthal brings a uniquely qualified perspective to his client engagements.

Dr. Rosenthal’s medical career spans over 3 decades, starting as a Clinical Staff Physician at the University of California-Davis Medical Center. During his tenure as an anesthesiologist, he held numerous leadership roles in both the hospital setting and his practice groups. These have included Chief of Anesthesia, member of the Medical Executive committee, and roles as Vice President and Treasurer. He was instrumental in bringing together a group of independent practitioners to form an anesthesia group which subsequently merged into a 120-member group based in Northern California. When he relocated to San Diego his counsel was sought on revising group billing practices and helped negotiate hospital contracts which remain in effect. He was also part of the team which facilitated the merger of San Dieguito Anesthesia into the much larger San Diego based Anesthesia Services Medical Group (ASMG).

Dr. Rosenthal was recruited and subsequently became medical director of a busy free standing surgery center, where he cultivated a collegial and collaborative environment. He prioritized open communication and focused on creating a work environment based on trust. Dr. Rosenthal was deeply involved in operations, policy and procedure, as well as the recruitment and retention of superior teammates. His efforts were always directed in the improvement of patient care. In 2021 the UCSD Center for Surgery Encinitas received the ranking of #3 in California and #5 in the United States by Newsweek.

Dr. Rosenthal expanded his professional reach by becoming part of the biotech startup Paradise Genomics. His involvement began as a scientific adviser and progressed to Vice President of Clinical Business Development. He has stepped into this challenge building relationships and networks to bring forward the technology which he believes will completely transform the diagnostic processes of medicine.

Dr. Rosenthal received his certification as an Executive Coach from the Hudson Institute in Santa Barbara. He has enjoyed calling upon his experience as a physician leader to assist new and established leaders navigate the ever-changing landscape of healthcare. Dr. Rosenthal leverages his domain knowledge in medicine, biotech, business development and strategy, and executive coaching to add value primarily within FMG Leading's private equity clients. His experience in practice management and operations, and in creating and maintaining high performing teams helps guide clients who are examining new opportunities both pre and post-acquisition.

He is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and the California Society of Anesthesiologists (CSA).

PERSONAL

Dr. Rosenthal lives in San Diego with his wife and dog. He enjoys being outdoors, playing tennis, cycling, backcountry skiing, and surfing with his kids. He is a lifelong learner and finds balance sharing his time with family and friends while uncovering the humor of daily life.
