Andrea Coleman is a former health system CEO and a certified executive leadership coach with an affinity for physician and non-physician leadership development. She brings a track record of creating vision, strategy, and actionable plans to drive growth and facilitate financial turnarounds.

With significant healthcare C-suite experience, including CEO roles at four health systems, Andrea brings to her coaching practice real-world insights, leadership perspective, and industry expertise. With this background, she has helped her coaching clients grow their impact, deliver key results, and build highly effective organizations. She partners with clients who are highly motivated and want to develop the nuanced leadership attributes that contribute to advancement.

Andrea earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of San Francisco, a master’s degree in social work from San Francisco State University, and an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Trinity College of Health Sciences.

EXPERIENCE

Andrea Coleman is a Senior Consultant at FMG Leading, a team of advisors that creates world-class organizations at the intersection of humanity and high performance. Her engagements include individual coaching, group coaching, and team development - all informed by her 35 years of experience in the healthcare industry.

Andrea has held executive leadership roles at both regional hospitals and in large and medium-sized health systems, where she has led several turnarounds over the course of career. Past positions include President and Chief Executive Officer of Trinity Regional Health System in Rock Island, Illinois; Chief Executive Officer of Hospitals at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa; and Chief Operating Officer at Penrose St. Francis Health Services in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Andrea also served as the founding CEO of South Valley Hospital in Gilroy, CA, overseeing its construction and first operational year.

Building on her affinity for physicians and their leadership development, Andrea helped form two physician leadership councils; one for a hospital association whose members were part of a national organization, and one for the Colorado Hospital Association. Earlier in her career, she assisted founding physician leaders as they formed a new medical staff for a new hospital. Andrea has been a speaker for the Society of Hospitalist Medicine, and has served on a physician-led council whose role was to guide the development of the physician group’s’ growth and its strategic role within the roll-out of a new health plan.

As an executive coach, Andrea utilizes a results-oriented approach, helping assess and address individual and organizational needs. She assists healthcare and physician leaders to identify vital skills and traits which enable them to thrive professionally and advance in their careers.

Andrea has been featured in MD Magazine as one of Colorado Springs’ Most Influential Women. She’s a recipient of FORUM’s Emerging Leader Award by Bay Area Women’s Healthcare Executives, and the YWCA Tribute to Women in Industry Award. She was also a Woman of Achievement Nominee for the Women’s Fund of Santa Cara County. Over the course of her career, Andrea has served on over 20 boards, often as chairperson.

A lifetime Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives (ACHE) Andrea has participated in the Vizient Executive Leadership Development Program and a range of professional specialized coursework, including the Harvard Executive Program in Managed Care, the IHI/Intermountain Executive Program in Quality Leadership, and the Stanford Program in Strategic Marketing. She is also certified by the International Coaching Federation.

PERSONAL

Andrea currently resides in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where she volunteers for the largest social services charity in Colorado and serves on the Medical Ethics Committee of an esteemed hospital in Denver. She has raised two adult children, both of whom are physicians, and enjoys living and working in the beautiful Colorado environment.
