CEO David Grams joined Compassus in 2021 and immediately recognized the opportunity to strengthen the organization’s coaching and leadership capabilities and scale them to meet the needs of a growing company. He sought a complete solution that would prepare Compassus to have success with organic growth, capture new opportunities to serve more communities, and provide team members from the executive level to the frontline with meaningful professional development to support the company’s employer of choice initiatives.

Partnership

Several key focus areas were identified at the start of the engagement, including building success profiles, completing senior leader assessments, and designing an applied leadership development program called “Leading the Compassus Way” that focused on building skills and capacity for critical leaders within the company. Work then began on “Compassus Academy,” a teammate experience hub and curriculum to support future leaders and enhance leadership effectiveness in each community the company operates.

Compassus also dedicated resources to strengthening and aligning teammates at all levels with its mission, vision and values. Solidifying team connection to the Compassus culture helped strengthen both clinical effectiveness and patient focus, creating more accountability, active leadership, and sense of community throughout the organization. Training to improve collaboration between local and clinical leaders also expanded access to care, enabling Compassus to serve a broader range of patients.

Employee turnover has reduced significantly from 38% to 23% annually, while engagement scores increased to new highs, up from 82% to 86% with improvement across each of 47 survey questions compared to the year before. Through the first half of 2023, Compassus has experienced year-over-year growth in the top quartile of its segment.
