Jennifer Perry Quoted in Chicago Tribune Article About Hospital Consolidation

An ambitious plan to build a $240 million facility for Provident Hospital has been put on hold — a move that follows the recent ouster of Cook County Health’s CEO and an announcement last month that competing hospitals nearby hope to build their own facility.

Chicago, IL - February, 2020 - FMG Leading’s Managing Principal Jennifer Perry has been quoted in a Chicago Tribune article about Provident Hospital and their decision to put on hold the building of a new $240 million hospital facility.

In the article, Jennifer references the recently announced merger of four South Side Chicago hospitals as a likely factor influencing Provident’s decision to press the pause button on opening a new facility, along with the recent ouster of Cook County Health CEO Dr. Jay Shannon.

Perry was quoted as saying, “In the face of a competitor saying they’re going to open not only a new hospital but also a significant number of outpatient centers, I would imagine they would not only want to take a step back to look at what’s needed, but also how do they respond and how do they position themselves.”

Cook County Health system explained in a statement, “The health system board believes that a project of this magnitude requires strong leadership. The board believes it is prudent to pause the project until a new CEO is named and he/she has the opportunity to become fully briefed in order to direct this project to a successful completion.”

About Provident Hospital

Provident Hospital, now a public hospital, was the first African-American owned and operated hospital in America. Provident was established in Chicago in 1891 by Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, an African-American surgeon during the time in American history where few public or private medical facilities were open to black Americans. It was founded to provide health care and medical training. In 1893, the first documented heart surgery was performed by Dr. Daniel Williams at Provident Hospital and Training School. Though the historic Provident Hospital was forced to close in 1987 due to financial difficulties, it reopened in 1998 as part of Cook County Hospital System to provide services to residents of Chicago's South Side. It is now known as Provident Hospital of Cook County. Source: Wikipedia
