A seasoned Human Resources professional with deep expertise across a broad spectrum of HR and industries, Jen’s career includes experience working with a range of organizations, from non-profits to Fortune 500 companies. 

Before joining FMG Leading, she served as Senior Director of Human Resources for Vail Resorts, and earlier in her career, as Director of Human Resources for Starbucks Coffee Company. In her current role as a Senior Consultant with FMG Leading, Jen helps clients build HR capability and effectiveness, with a focus on leader development, performance management, strategic planning, mergers and acquisition integration, and succession planning. Jen earned a B.A. in Business and Human Resources from Washington State University, and a Master’s degree in Management from Antioch University.

EXPERIENCE

Jen Bales is a Senior Consultant at FMG Leading, a team of advisors and coaches who help clients achieve breakthrough performance through worldclass human capital strategy. A seasoned Human Resources professional with deep expertise across a broad spectrum of HR and industries, she is known as a trusted advisor and business partner focused on developing effective leaders and HR strategies. Jen’s career includes experience working with a range of organizations, from non-profits to Fortune 500 companies. Before joining FMG Leading, Jen served as Senior Director of Human Resources for Vail Resorts, where she led an HR team supporting 6 states and 11 resorts for 6,000 full time and 20,000 seasonal employees. In her role at Vail, she focused on the design and implementation of foundational HR processes to support local HR teams and employees, creating scalability, efficiency and continuous improvements for HR and the business. Prior to Vail Resorts, she served as Director, Human Resources, for Starbucks Coffee Company. At Starbucks, Jen served as the HR leader for internal clients and partnered with executive leaders to identify and execute an integrated set of succession planning, employee engagement and organization effectiveness strategies. Jen’s experience at Starbucks also includes leading the U.S. HR service center, providing support to over 8,000 stores and 120,000 employees in the U.S. and Canada. Her role centered around setting direction and developing strategy for Starbucks U.S. Human Resource Operations.

In her current role as a Senior Consultant with FMG Leading, Jen helps clients build HR capability and effectiveness, with a focus on leader development, performance management, strategic planning, mergers and acquisition integration, and succession planning. Jen’s commitment to her community can be seen in her past board experience for the Northwest Outward Bound School, and her current service to the Colorado Outward Bound School.

ACADEMIC AFFILIATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Jen earned a B.A. in Business and Human Resources from Washington State University, and a Master’s degree in Management from Antioch University. She will complete her iPEC Executive Coaching Certification in May 2018.

PERSONAL

An avid skier and road cyclist, Jen lives with her husband and son near Denver, Colorado. She grew up living both in the U.S. and abroad as the daughter of an Air Force pilot; this experience fostered a lifelong passion for travel and the outdoors.
